17 January 2025
According to the press release on the website of the Department of Justice of Hong Kong on January 6, titled "Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy and Supreme People's Court co-organise first Hong Kong Common Law Practical Training Course (with photos)", eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre (eBRAM) is honored to announce that it provides full support to the "Hong Kong Common Law Practical Training Course" co-organised by the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy and the Supreme People's Court (SPC) with its innovative legal technology.
The Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SBS, SC, JP, officiated at the opening ceremony of the course and delivered the first lecture. He expressed his gratitude to the SPC for its support and trust in the Academy. Noting that Hong Kong has a robust bilingual common law system as the only common law jurisdiction in the country under the "one country, two systems" principle, Mr Lam said he hopes that the course will facilitate exchanges that bridge the legal systems of Hong Kong and the Mainland, and deepen the participants' understanding of Hong Kong's common law system so that they can integrate their learning into practice in future.

The training course is primarily conducted in English, with a diverse range of formats including lectures, seminars, and visits. Leveraging its advanced legal technology solutions, eBRAM provided real-time transcription and translation services, ensuring seamless communication and effective knowledge transfer. This technology acts like a "personal assistant," providing professional and instant translation services for judges from the Mainland, enabling them to understand the course content more accurately and promptly. Whether it is the brilliant explanations from judges and judicial officers in the lectures or the in-depth exchanges with senior legal professionals in the seminars, they can obtain knowledge about the operation and practice of Hong Kong's common law system without any barriers.

The first batch of the training course consists of 25 judges from the SPC, the High People's Court of Guangdong Province and the courts of the nine Mainland cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including judges and judicial officers from Hong Kong, senior legal professionals, and members of the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Expert Committee. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the participants from various perspectives.
Additionally, eBRAM was pleased to be invited to participate in the seminar exchange held on the afternoon of January 15.
The seminar was chaired by Dr Yang Ling, Director of the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Office of the Department of Justice. Mr Ronald Sum, JP, Vice Chairman of eBRAM, shared valuable experience of legal technology in Hong Kong legal services, especially in the arbitration industry. He mentioned that eBRAM has always been committed to providing efficient and convenient online dispute resolution services for legal professionals through innovative legal technology.
eBRAM is honored to participate in the seminar exchange of the training course and hopes to explore more possibilities of legal technology in legal talent training and practical application with all parties. We will continue to leverage LawTech services to foster greater legal collaboration and knowledge exchange between Hong Kong and the Mainland in the future.
